Matrix Metalloproteinases and their Tissue Inhibitors Levels among Women with Pregnancy Miscarriage.

The previous studies have shown that frequency of bacterial pathogens occurrence in chronic endometritis decreased by almost 2 times from 71% to 37%, and the participation of viral factor increased by almost a third. It is a well-known fact that the severity of an infectious process is associated with dysfunction of the immune system. One of the factors that involved into the inflammatory process is the system of Metalloproteinases (MMP) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMP).

Objective. To evaluate the levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in the samples of blood serum of patients with pregnancy miscarriage caused by infectious agents depending on existence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Patients. 78 patients with a history of one or more reproductive loss with sexually-transmitted infection (STI). Patients were divided into 2 groups: I group (n=38) – STI with HPV, II group (n=40) − STI without HPV. Results and discussion. A significant change in the contents of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in the serum of patients depending on HPV presence was found. The level of MMP-9 was increased in both groups (I group − 438,9 (436,57;441,3) ng/ml; II group 325,2 (290,8;359,6) ng/ml). Concentration of the MMP-9 in group I was increased more significantly than in group II(p<0,05). TIMP-1 increased more significantly in II group (308,7 (301,87; 315,5) ng/ml) (p<0,01) compared to the I group (259,9 (248,4; 261,5) ng/ml). Possible reason of elevated levels of MMP-9 in both groups is prolonged inflammation. Disturbance in TIMP-1 level also linked to HPV presence.
